URSKIN Beauty: a skincare Shopify store for melanin-rich skin

URSKIN Beauty is a founder-led, Black-owned skincare brand whose Vitamin C formulas are made for melanin-rich skin. Its real difference was buried in ingredient lists, and trying the full routine meant risking $154. I built a Shopify store that states the founder's reason first, shows the four products as one ritual and makes a $29.99 trial kit the obvious first buy.

The client

URSKIN Beauty is a founder-led, Black-owned skincare brand with an unusually specific reason to exist. Most Vitamin C is developed for the lightest skin, then sold to everyone.

Melanin-rich skin brightens differently, and dark marks linger longer. URSKIN's formulas are built for that. It is a real difference, and real differences get buried in ingredient lists.

The problem

Vitamin C is the most crowded shelf in skincare. Every brand claims brightness, gentleness and results, so claims alone persuade nobody.

  • The brand sat in the most crowded category in beauty.
  • Its real difference was buried in ingredient lists.
  • Ten active ingredients meant nothing to most buyers.
  • A first-timer had to risk $154 on a brand they did not know.
  • The four products only work in sequence, but could easily read as four separate buys.

The brief: make the reason for the brand unmissable, and give a sceptical first-timer a way in that does not cost $154.

What we built

I built a skincare Shopify store that leads with the reason, explains the chemistry in plain words and makes trying the routine cost $29.99. It was a Shopify store development project on the platform's own features with a customised theme, so there is nothing extra for the brand to keep paying for.

  • The reason, up front. Why the brand exists is said before anything is sold. It is the one thing competitors cannot copy.
  • Four steps, one ritual. Cleanse, tone, treat and moisturize are shown in order, so the full routine is the natural end point.
  • Ingredients in plain English. Ten actives explained in terms a buyer understands, not a list copied off the carton.
  • A $29.99 way in. The Mini Glow Kit removes the biggest objection in skincare: spending real money on an unknown brand.
  • Proof and convenience built in. Customer reviews, a wishlist and quick add to cart sit on the pages where people decide.

The brand story also has its own section, with a link through to the full story for buyers who want to know who is behind the formulas.

The result

Cleanse at $29, Tone at $31, Treat at $52 and Moisturize at $42 now read as four steps rather than four products. The order makes sense, and the basket builds itself.

Then there is the Mini Glow Kit at $29.99: all four products, travel-sized. Nobody has to spend $154 to find out whether the routine works on their skin.

It is how I approach Shopify stores for beauty and skincare brands: find the one true difference, say it first and lower the cost of the first order.
